Hey there my garlic cloves, I’m Nina!
Thank you for stopping by and welcome to my kitchen! Here’s a little bit about me that you should know before you step into my oasis. I love cooking, in fact it has always been my passion!
My passion for cooking came from my mom, who literally taught me everything I needed to know about Indian cuisine. From making a simple dal to cooking for 50 people, she’s led me every step of the way. I’m extremely grateful to have such an experienced person by my side.
Growing up, particularly in the Indian community, it wasn’t a norm for men to be seen in the kitchen. Yet, in our household my dad and I would make Khandvi (almost) every Saturday morning. This is one of the most complicated Gujarati recipes, but we made it well. Til this day, my dad still cooks, tries new recipes, and makes tasty treats!
Fun fact: when I was young, I used to always ask for leftovers for dinner (instead of what was on the dinner table that evening). The leftovers tasted even better the next day. Some of my recipes, especially curries taste amazing the next day!
My hubby and I have been married since 2011. Not only has he taken a keen interest in our kitchen from prepping to cooking; but he also finds new recipes to make for us! I have a dog named Toby, who loves to eat 1 whole banana everyday at 5:00 pm – without fail. I have two incredibly charming sons – who are my pride and joy and are always excited to help in the kitchen!
My family and I believe that sharing is caring and that positive energy brings positive things. One day, my elder son reached for my hand and said “sharing is caring, Mumma” as there was one Cheeto left in the bowl that we were eating from. Now, we all know how important that last Cheeto is, but as anyone would do, he let me have a small bite of it. Yes, we have cheat days and Cheetos are always approved on cheat days! 😉
I’ve been encouraged to start a food blog for quite some time now, and have finally taken the plunge! Thanks to all of you who gave me the final push.
My ultimate goal is to teach my boys how to cook, because there’s nothing more ideal than a man who knows his way around the kitchen. Cooking is a basic life necessity that we all must have.
And with that I present you with a few of my homemade recipes (some of which you may have never even heard of), and hope that you have fun making these in your kitchen!
So let’s peel those garlics, and start cooking!
